He blamed his poor playoffs on a concussion. I honestly thought he said it to avoid getting traded.

Does TSN know something the Pittsburgh media doesn't?

If they put Martin on IR, doesn't that give them more flexibility with keeping Bortuzzo or Strait on the roster and not having to put them through waivers to send them back to WBS?

The concussion is what put him on the shelf at the end of the Philly series.:

Or already sent him, and that is why he isn't better.

Penguins' Niskanen out Tuesday; injury not serious

By Josh Yohe

The Penguins will be without defenseman Matt Niskanen on Tuesday when they play the New York Islanders at Consol Energy Center.

However, the injury will not keep Niskanen out of the lineup for an extended period. He will likely be listed as "day-to-day" following Tuesday's game.

Niskanen sustained an ankle injury during the first period in Ottawa on Sunday when he crashed skates-first into the boards. He did not return to the game, forcing the Penguins to use five defensemen.

Either Simon Despres or Robert Bortuzzo will replace Niskanen in Tuesday's lineup. Niskanen has primarily played on the left side of a defensive pairing with Kris Letang this season.

It'll be interesting to see which of the two young blueliners that Disco decides to dress tonight. Although, Lovejoy is pretty much a traffic cone, so maybe both of them. Posted Image

We've already seen what Despres can/cannot do so maybe it's time to let Bortuzzo give it a try. I'm not a big Lovejoy fan but if it's him sucking up 8-10 mins of ice time or Despres getting twice that much and doing the same thing as Lovejoy then I'd say keep Ben in the lineup. At least his toi is minimized.

Glad to hear the injury isn't serious, but you know the meaning of day to day. That usually means month to month.
