Obviously, that's going to change by the end of the season, so we can keep an eye on things as the stretch drive progresses. Remaining games range from 13 to 16, depending on the team.

The Regular Season Thread is still there for general NHL discussion, so keep this focused on anything playoff related as the regular season comes to a close and the playoffs begin.

If the playoffs started today. In the East 1 vs 8, 2 vs 3(Eastern Final matchup in 1st rnd!), 4 vs 7 , 6 vs 5(and yes, 6 gets home ice advantage). In the West, 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 6 vs 5 (this matchup again) and 4 vs 5...........
is this right? I picked it up from a poster over on TSN...but are they doing a different shuffle for the east?

The match ups I'm familiar with is 1-8; 2-7; 3-6; 4-5. Those are new to me then again I could be wrong.

You have to think about it.

This person has taken the playoff picture today and then reassigned the rankings based on points. The NHL hasn't done anything new.

His Rankings:
1. New York 103 (EAST Conf #1)
2.Pittsburgh 100 (EAST Conf #4)
3.Philadelphia 96 (EAST Conf #5)
4.Boston 93 (EAST Conf #2)
5.New Jersey 92 (EAST Conf #6)
6.Florida 89 ((EAST Conf #3)
7.Ottawa 88 (EAST Conf #7)
8.Buffalo 86 (EAST Conf #8)

So based on the current playoff standings and using this guy's rankings: 1 plays 8, 2 plays 3, 4 plays 7, 5 plays 6 (NY vs. Buf) (Pit vs. PHL) (Bos vs. Ott) (NJ vs. Fla)

All he's saying is that the current NHL playoff seedings are screwed up the way they do it. Biggest example is Florida having the #3 seed with home ice, yet they are 6th in overall points in the conference.

I understand that, but if I remember correctly wasn't there a team that had more points than the division leader but didn't make the playoffs? That is what doesn't make sense to me.

I am just patiently (UN-patiently) waiting for the schedule to come out so I can finagle days off.
