He's going to be 39 years old in April.
I'm not saying that he doesn't have something in the tank, but a team stocked to the gills with quality young blueliners (including several offensively skilled ones) is going to trade for an almost 39 year old? Or even pick him up next summer as a UFA? Wow, I find that hard to believe.

Who knows what Shero has in mind. Maybe he wants him back to coach the defense. IMHO that wouldn't be bad in and of itself. I like Gonchar as much as the next person. I have his sweater. However, with all due respect, in no way shape or form do I want to see him on the ice for the Pens. He'll return with a big contract for the rest of the year, and would, as you say/imply, return at the cost of some younger skilled "D" men. Even if he comes UFA he won't come cheap for a years worth of service. I hope it's a rumor.
