WCHA Suspends Referee After Airport Arrest
The WCHA has suspended referee Peter Friesema, indefinitely, pending a review of an off-ice incident at an airport in Anchorage, Alaska.
Friesma was checking into the airport after working games in Alaska this past weekend. According to reports, a remark about a bomb caused authorities to arrest him.
He was charged with disorderly conduct and eventually released on $1,500 bail.
The reports indicate that Friesma luggage tag was stuck on the bag of the person he was flying with. When the attendant said it didn't matter, Friesma said, according to the incident report, "but my friend's bag has a bomb in it."
Friesema later told investigators he actually was asking "what if my friend's bag has a bomb in it?"
The WCHA declined further comment, pending the investigation.
